What is an OmaHeck...

It is likely you have never heard of an OmaHeck. We kind of made it up. Here's a little history:

When I moved to Utah in 1990, I was introduced to a brand new phrase: "Oh my heck!" I guess it means "wow", "no way", or "that's surprising." It serves as a multi-purpose expression and possibly a swear :-0 (as in "Oh my heck, you are a jerk!)

When the family left Utah and settled in Omaha, NE (2004), we became "OmaHecks."

Summer's Gone, Sumner's Here

As the warm and humid evenings of September gave way to the cool crisp days of October, Sumner arrived at our house.

He's a beautiful Chocolate Beagle. He was born in a litter of 4 pups, 3 male and 1 female. The breeder told us that 3:1 is a normal ratio of the sexes in beagle pups, but having all 3 males come chocolate is some crazy genetic odds.

We got a sneak peak of Sumner in our home when the breeder had to leave unexpectedly for a funeral in New York. She asked us to take the mother and 4 pups until she returned. Wow! Baptism by fire.

After about day 2, the pups could hop out of their pool/pen, but of course, they couldn't hop back in. so, our entire kitchen became the domain of the dogs. It really was interesting and fun. By the time the breeder got home, we were sad to see the pups go (although their mom was a different story, she's a piece of work!) so we were glad to know that Sumner would return shortly.

We have had some great adventures in the last few days. Sumner is a part of our family now. But is he an OmaHeck? He didn't come from Utah, we'll have to make a ruling on that in a future entry.

Here are some pictures from Sumner's first days in our home.

With Cyndie while reading to the boys. Thirteen years ago today, Cyndie and I were married. Did she have any idea then that 13 years later she'd be reading to two boys and a dog in Omaha? I think not!

With Tate...Lick that face, Sumner!

Dane and Sumner are good friends. About the same size and about the same level of obedience! (TIC)
